WordPress-bbPress syncronization
I do that plugin for fun now, but if you want to see new feature for you, you may donate to make your feature implementation faster.
Overview
This plugin allows you to sync your WordPress comments to bbPress forum and back. You may chose your individual options combination to sync comments and post the way you need. So, if you feel that there is no option that you need, feel free to ask for it (and say thanks, of course ;) ).
Requirements
- Optional: php-curl module must be installed for https communication
- WordPress user database must be integrated with bbPress (standard procedure)
- Plugin must be installed and correctly configured in both systems
Features
- Creating topic for new comments on post and continuing conversation
- Creating topic for new posts after publishing
- Mirroring comment/forum post changes WordPress to bbPress and back
- Mirroring comment/forum post status (spam, unapproved, approved)
- Per-post enable/disable for comment syncronization
- Anonymous comment mirroring

- Adding tag for crossposted forum topics to process them on bbPress side
- Crossposting to specified forum according post category
Installation
Download latest plugin versions both for bbPress and WordPress and install them as usual. Note, that you need to install bbPress user plugins to my-plugins, not to bb-plugins (official recommendation from bbPress authors), otherwise you will fail with installation.
Expecting features

Warning: require_once(/home/***/***.ru/www/forum/my-plugins/../../bb-load.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/***/***.ru/www/forum/my-plugins/bbwp-sync.php on line 12
hi, i have done everything ok with bbpress until: (Not allowed: [WordPress part] Cannot establish connection to bbPress part)
last problem is i can not set bbpress url with wordpress:
URL is incorrect or connection error, please verify it (full variant): http://www.ernestojustiniano.org/foro/bb-plugins/wordpress-bbpress-syncronization/bbwp-sync.php
I have also changed my-plugins to bb-plugins
I put http://www.ernestojustiniano.org/foro/ but the same response. Maybe redirection or … i do not know.
I have also tried now with the new version 0.4
Nice work! but how do you get the comments imported and enabled on pre-existing posts?
> Nice work! but how do you get the comments imported and enabled on pre-existing posts?
they do not importing? when you installing this plug-in.
Importing is only when You post FIRST comment to a blog post. No matter when it was created.
no, they’re not importing. no topic is created in the forum, either. it only creates a new topic in bbpress for new blog posts without any pre-existing comments.
latest WP and bb
also, it would be nice if you could choose the bbpress topic associated with your post.
in wordpress editor:
[_] automatically create bbpress topic for this post (default)
[x] use this topic:
[______ drop down list of bbpress topics ______]
Hi, I’ve finally gotten both parts to say “Everything is ok! ” for all the fields in the settings, but I can not enable either part because they both say “Not allowed”..
bbpress plugin says this:
Enable plugin (Not allowed: [bbPress part] bbPress part not activated)wordpress plugin says the same thing, however the checkbox to enable the bbpress part is disabled, as is the wordpress part’s “enabled” checkbox.
What do I do?
Hm. Try to reactivate bbPress plugin.
Which version of bbPress do you use?
I’m using WordPress 2.7.1 and bbPress 1.0-alpha-6
I’ve disabled, renabled, uninstalled, and reinstalled both plugins for both systems with no change. The bbPress plugin always says “Not allowed: [bbPress part] bbPress part not activated”
Do you use latest plugins versions?
yes, 0.4.1… both downloaded from this page.
Give me full path to bbPress part in your bbPress directory.
http://www.footpaw.net/bbpress/my-plugins/wordpress-bbpress-syncronization
Hi,
I’ve run into a slight problem while using the plugin on a fresh install of latest Wordpress and bbPress, when trying to activate it, gives an error:
bbPress database error: [Table 'aghor.forum_meta' doesn't exist]
SELECT meta_value FROM forum_meta WHERE object_type = “bb_option” AND meta_key = “active_plugins”
Not sure it was supposed to exist? Any ideas? :)
@Vlad, latest stable version of bbPress less than 1.0 ;) You need to use at lease 1.0alpha6 (i’ve tested with that version). Which version do you use?
@Mythender, such a strange. Which version bbPress?
Version 1.0-alpha-6
So strange. So you have Jabber/GTalk? It’s better to talk faster ;)
ibobrik@gmail.com
@Vlad, new feature for you and others ;)
Thats great – thank you very much! :]
Another thing, which I suppose could take a bit of work, is to have a feature, where the post is created in bbPress, but the comments are disabled in WP, but there’s a link from WP to bbPress to discuss it in the forum. And perhaps a latest post shows in WP from bbPress..
I don’t know how much work that could be, but perhaps we could donate some money to help you with implementation? Let me know :)
Leave me your contacts. I think I may do that
Hey! I’m using WP 2.7.1 and BBPress 1.0-rc-1 with bbwp-sync 0.5.2 with the same version for wordpress and bbpress. The Wordpress plugin has 2 errors:
1) “URL is incorrect or connection error, please verify it (full variant): http://www.planningpool.com/forums/my-plugins/wordpress-bbpress-syncronization/bbwp-sync.php”
2) “Error! Not equal secret keys in WordPress and bbPress”
BUT! The BBPress plugin says that the secret keys sync. Instead, the BBPress plugin won’t let me enable, because it says “(Not allowed: [bbPress part] Too old WordPress part plugin version)”.
If you have a minute, please help! I’m not sure why this is happening.
be sure that you installed into my-plugins of bbpress. also enable acces to that url via .htaccess, because your server says 403.
Thanks for getting back to me. I’m definitely installed in my-plugins.
Not sure why I’m getting the 403 error. I’ve adjusted the .htaccess, but I must be doing something wrong, because I keep getting the error!
you may show me .htaccess and then I’ll try to say something
Thanks for your help. Turns out I just had to change my-plugins and some other folder permissions to 755!
Can you give me more info about adjusting the .htaccess file for the plug in to work? I’m getting “URL is incorrect or connection error” and I believe the path to the plug in on bbpress is being rewritten.
“also enable acces to that url via .htaccess, because your server says 403.” – thats what I need help with.
_thanks
I really don’t know how to ajust it because I don’t see it :)
You may just check permissions, they must be 755. Can you open filelisting for bb-plugins dir in your browser or also gets 403?
Thanks -
I updated permissions.that didnt work. Then I managed to add this to the .htaccess for the wordpress rewrites:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} “/folder2/”
folder2 I just changed to the path for the plug in under the forums. Now the sync works, but I have a new problem. When I commented in wordpress within the admin panel, it created another topic in the forum (so i had a double post). I’ll keep testing and see if i can duplicate it.
only when you comment from wp admin or everytime?
Yes, it seems that when I edit a post as well in WP, it will post the same entry in the forum again (every time I edit and republish an entry it makes a new topic in the forum).
tell me wp and bb versions, tell me more about installation
i haven’t such issue
Hi,
i installed your plugin on WP 2.8 and BB rc.3 but after setup and activation, i see only a white page on my forum.
Any solution?
what about showing page source for ‘white page’?
Is there a way to make a new topic in BBPress for every new article in Wordpress and sync comments from wordpress to BBPress but NOT sync comments back from BBPress to wordpress? I just dont want BBPress posts to clutter up the articles…
oh my god. so many checkboxes already :)
everything is possible, but have some cost
@Bobrik
The main reason I ask is because people post things in the forum that will not look right in the wordpress comments. For example, images and lots of text bullets indents… I just dont want to clutter up our articles but I want to pass the conversation over to the forums… Let me know if it is possible.
Great plugin by the way! I am actually taking your lead and created a working mobile plugin for BBPress. I just need to make it work for other people now with an admin page…
I see that in bbpress everything is fine, but in wordpress i get a error
URL is incorrect or connection error, please verify it
and
Error! Not equal secret keys in WordPress and bbPress
I set the permission of the plugin URL to 755, so i have no clue
give me urls to check them.
wordpress shows 2 errors at the same time?
Yes, wp is showing 2 errors at same time.
My url’s are
http://########
and: http://########/forum/my-plugins/wordpress-bbpress-syncronization/bbwp-sync.php
P.S. Please delete my urls after reading
do you have google talk, another jabber or maybe at least icq?
i need to see screenshot of error
ibobrik@gmail.com
Hi
am trying to install the plugin in my bbpress forum but when i try activating it i get “Plugin could not be activated; it produced a Fatal Error”.what could be the problem.it works well in my word press blog.
Thanks
what bbpress version do you use?
version 1.0.1
maybe broken download, try to reinstall the plugin.
i have done that several times but i still get the same error.
try to inspect yout web-server logs for errors after activation. do we talk about initial activation of plugin in plugin list, yep? not “enabling”?
Great plugin, after upgrading to 0.71, the option “First post type” on Wordpress setting only works with full post, others just shows Links to the post without text
Works great, thank you
Hey just wanted to mention that your plugin comes with a drawback for windows server users and results in the above mentioned errors where you cant activate the plugin:
If you check for `wordpress-bbpress-syncronization/bbwp-sync.php` in the table `bb_meta` in key `bb_option` you will probably not find the value since the slash on the windows system is a backslash resulting in `wordpress-bbpress-syncronization\bbwp-sync.php`.
As far as I counted you have to change this on three occasions in your script.
Regards
yeknomedoc, okay, but does activation/deactivation functions works well? maybe it will be better make wordpress patch to remove such incorrect behavior? Windows also accepts normal slashes as path delimiters, afair
Hey I was using 0.75 and it was working ok, just not posting Excerpts properly. After upgrading to 0.76, Wordpress is complaining that it can’t connect. I get this error:
“URL is incorrect or connection error, please verify it (full variant): http://www.ben.geek.nz/forum/my-plugins/wordpress-bbpress-syncronization/bbwp-sync.php”
But if you got to that link, it all looks fine.
Any ideas?
I am receiving the same error as Ernesto; “Not allowed: [bbPress part] bbPress part is not activated”. I uninstalled both plugins from wpmu and bbpress, downloaded both of the plugins that said they where updated “2009-8-1″, made sure that the bbpress plugin went into “my-plugins” and NOT bb-plugins. No Luck, I’m using WPMU 2.8.2, Buddypress 1.0.3, and bbpress 1.2. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
Kel
Ben, what’s wrong with excerpts? No ideas
Kelly, where do you see Ernesto with such error? Windows server, yeah?
Sorry, my error is exactly like Mythender (08:34:00) from April 11th, everything says “OK”, Yes I am on Windows 2003 R2
Kelly, I’ll fix it in the next plugin release. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe it will be harder than I think and release come later
Hi,
I’m stuck, please help :-)
I’m getting (on both wpmu & bbpress): (Not allowed: [bbPress part] Invalid anonymous user id) what do I set this to? where do I set it?
Thanks
Michaela, in the bbPress part settings. It’s numeric user id. It’s better to create user in wordpress and copy his id to settings
thank you so much. Now I understand
Hi,
Getting following error on bbpress 1.0.2:
“Fatal error: Cannot redeclare create_bb_topic() (previously declared in /home/idwellness/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-bbpress-syncronization/wpbb-sync.php:237) in /home/idwellness/public_html/forum/my-plugins/wordpress-bbpress-syncronization/bbwp-sync.php on line 251″
Thanks for any help
I can’t understand why one part include another. How did you install that?
Hi Bobrik:
I “deep integrated” wordpress and bbpress: http://bbpress.org/documentation/integration-with-wordpress/
Last two paragraphs explain
read last sentence :)
tell me why do you really need it. i plan to rename all functions to one view for the next release, but don’t know when it will be available. so many small work with localization & other damn stupid things that don’t give me any chance to onjoy them
do you need it soon?
Yeah yeah I know. It’s needed for the theme header and footer and sidebar. It would be appreciated if we could get it done asap. I could send you a donation if you can get it done quickly.
http://svn.wp-plugins.org/wordpress-bbpress-syncronization/trunk
http://plugins-svn.bbpress.org/wordpress-bbpress-syncronization/trunk
checkout php files from there. works fine for me, report if anything goes wronk
donation link at the top of the page :)
IT’s working! Thanks a lot man! Donation coming asap from Michaela Conley! My associate… with the money!
thanks. you’re welcome :)
Hey Bobrik,
I can’t get my head around this sync thing. What I did was install on subdomain.mysite.com. Everything works fine once I fixed missing admin and users are logging in on either wp or bb but I can’t get this plugin work, still getting
URL is incorrect or connection error, please verify it (full variant): http://forum.mysite.com/my-plugins/wordpress-bbpress-syncronization/bbwp-sync.php
and then
403 Permission Denied
You do not have permission for this request /my-plugins/wordpress-bbpress-syncronization/bbwp-sync.php
if I try to follow that link.
I’ve tried with several things that I’ve found here but not sure if I’m doing .htaccess rewrite or permissions properly, can you tell me where exactly should I put it (public html or in the plugin subfolder) and in which form exactly (the whole paragraph)?
I’m sure this must be some simple hack but my skills are limited here…
Thanks for you for your time and kudos for great plugin.
Oh yeah, I’m using latest version of both WP and BB.
show me your .htacces (you may email it: ibobrik@gmail.com)
Just an update if some of you guys come here with the same problem.
The whole path to your bbwp-sync.php file, including the file itself, must be set to 755 (permissions, it can be set in your file explorer in your host account – usually right click>permissions).
bobrik was patient enough to go through this with me on gmail
thanks mate
“URL is incorrect or connection error, please verify it (full variant): (url)
But if you got to that link, it all looks fine.
Any ideas?”
If the reply string starts with a newline (may depend on server config?) the call to unserialize() in wpbb-sync.php will fail. I was able to get around this by adding a call to trim() for the reply string before unserialize().
Ola, check trunk versions and say what you see. I plan to release it if it works
I tried the trunk versions on a fresh install, and didn’t run into the ‘url is incorrect’ problem – however, synced posts are empty in the forum (the title is there, the content is not). This might be unrelated to the original issue.
What type of content do you crosspost?
Hi,
We have the same problem here:
URL is incorrect or connection error, please verify it (full variant)
I tried everything, I have the last version of wp, bbpress and your plugin but nothing…
The forum is instaled here:
Can you help us?
Thanx,
Your forum doesn’t work at all, why do you think my plugin must work? :)
Configure your installation first
Hello,
It does work, after paying a developer we made it work…
http://www.murraynewlands.com/forum/
Thank you anyway… we will post about the solution soon.
It’s better to pay to me to do that kind of work, jfyi
mediafire.com/?iamyzwmmmrqHI,
I can tell you in advance that the problem was the lack of information in your help files, like, in order to make this work:
YOU SHOULD use the same DATABASE for wp & bbpress …(different tables of course)
That fixed all the issues! …but when you install bbpress and then your plugin it says NOWHERE that you could do that…
Anyway I cant be so specific with the answer as the developer will post about it…
You’re wrong. You may even use different physical servers with my plugin. It seems that you misconfigured your bbPress or WordPress installation.
So, be afraid of your developer ;)
Hello,
i am getting this error:
Warning: main(/home/xxxx/public_html/xxxx/forum/my-plugins/../../bb-load.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/xxxx/public_html/xxxx/forum/my-plugins/bbwp-sync.php on line 33

Is there anything i can do? Thank you very much, especially for your antisocial feeling blog, really loved the images!
Nebbia
so, what about placing plugins in correct places? i mean you need to have subdirectory “wordpress-bbpress-syncronization” with my plugin.
Just follow common instructions
Ooops sorry, i didnt get i had to copy the all folder, now I can enable it, thanks a lot!
Please, help me overcome this issue. I can’t link the plugins: [Invalid line]
[Invalid line] Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/content/a/l/w/alwdensho/html/foros/my-plugins/wordpress-bbpress-syncronization/bbwp-sync.php on line 873
Wordpress: http://oxm.com.mx
bbpress: http://oxm.com.mx/foros
Thanks!
delete all lines if don’t use categorization on forum
Hello!
I installed your Plugin – how can i sync all old posts & coments to forum???
Forum URL: http://sommergemuese.klee.in/forum
manually %)
or you may pay for that feature if you want it so much more
Hi – Is it possible to only sync selected comments manually? Basically I have both a forum and a site running on Wordpress. People comment on the blog portion, but not all comments are worthy of discussion on the forums. I want to be able to manually syn comments on specific posts.
Is this a feature or possible with the plugin?
Chris, there is ability to set sync for separate posts. See post edit page
“Please continue discussion on the forum: link”
How can I remove this? I would rather nothing be output at all.
nevermind I figured it out! :)
One problem though…I have the options set to output the excerpt of the post in bbpress but it displays the whole post. Is there any way to fix this?
One last thing:
Is it possible to have all old posts and comments import into the forum via your plugin?
Thanks. :)
-Adam
What about setting excerpt in post? If post have no excerpt then post content before <!–more–> will be used. Set exceerpt and everything will be fixed :)
There’s no possibility to import old posts now. If someone pay for it, I’ll implement that :)
Btw, if you running commercial site with my plugin, feel free to donate
The posts is set to excerpt, but w/e it’s ok that it shows the whole post, that works fine too.
How much would it cost to be able to import all existing posts and comments to bbpress?
That costs $100 per site
@Adam: If you don’t have too many posts, what you could do is simply “edit” each post (don’t change anything) and then save them. The plugin will then make the topic with all the comments in bbPress. We did this on around 20 posts. Not too bad but it works. If you don’t have too many, it’s a good way to go.
@Rohan: Thanks for the tip! Comments are not showing up unfortunately, but at least the post gets imported. It’s better than nothing. :)
@Adam: Glad you got some of that working. I’m not sure why the comments aren’t coming along. Try doing the edit and then save again (twice) per post. Once may create the topic and the second time will hopefully bring the comments. If you want email me directly @ rohan@rohan-kapoor.com and I’ll tell you all about what I did.
Good luck!
Well, it seems that a “button” with the function to import all comments of all old posts (in order of posting date, and comment date, is the most requested feature. If there is anyone willing to contribute (donate) with me to get this one done, please email me at:
bbpress (-at-) stippy.com
I have mailed bobrik letting him know that I will do this, as I would like to coordinate getting it done as soon as possible. A few more of us in on it might be able to be a bit more “convincing” that this is needed soon!! Please mail me if you are interested.
Hey bobrik,
I have noticed that on my bbpress, all users are designated as anonymous users, even if they are registered on my wordpress installation. Is this normal? Is there any way to fix it so that their ID/username is synced with their wordpress login?
In my bbpress users panel, all users show up correctly, but in the posts, they all have the same avatar as designated by the anonymous user ID from your plugin.
Thanks,
Adam
2 things i’d like to see implemented
1) when an old wp post is edited (even a quick edit) the post is synced, I’d like to see its create date in bbpress match that of the post in wordpress
2) is there some way of syncing some of the data stored in the users profile between the wordpress profile and the bbpress profile
“# Optional: php-curl module must be installed for https communication”
Hi,
Love this plugin, i’ve been fiddling with it for a couple months. I’ve recently run into a problem where the plugin has stopped working. Everything is configured properly, and when i comment on a WP post it automatically adds the topic to my bbpress installation, but it does not add the post!
When i look at it in my buddypress group, it shows the topic, but “(0 posts)” beside it.
This was working before I upgraded to 1.1.2 and a few other plugins… anyone have this problem before?
I recently added the Group Forum Subscription plugin – could this be the culprit?
Hi again,
I tracked down my problem and it was the bbpress plugin included with the Group Forum Subscription plugin for BuddyPress.
The symptom was that only the Topic would be created when a post was synchronized with bbPress, not the post content. So the Topic would show up in the forum and in the BuddyPress group, but if a user clicked on it they would see “no posts”.
Deactivating the bbpress component of the Group Forum Subscription fixed it up!
BUT…
Now It doesn’t show the initial comment that triggers the synchronization in the first place :(
I have the plugin configured to create the forum topic + post upon the first comment. It creates the topic in the forum and successfully adds the excerpt, but not the comment i added.
New comments I add to the blog post also do not appear.
However, if I add a comment to the group or forum, it appears properly on the blog page, so it is “half working”.
Any idea why the blog comments are not synchronizing to the forum/group?
I’m running bp 1.1.2 with wpmu 2.8.6 and bbpress 1.0.
some additional notes…
I notice that comments that I add from the blog (which do not appear on the forum/group) pop up in the db tables:
- wp_1_comments
- wp_1_options
- wp_1_posts
… and the comments that I add from the forum or group (which DO appear on the blog as well) appear in these db tables:
- wp_1_comments
- wp_1_options
… like the other comment, and then in:
- bb_posts
instead of wp_1_posts. Is this significant? Could the plugin be putting the comments added to the blog in the wrong table?
Ok – last update… It turns out:
- comments i add to the forum directly appear properly in the forum, the group and on the blog
- comments i add to blog only appear on the blog, not in the group or directly on the forum
- comments i add to the group appear on the group and in the forum, but NOT on the blog
I have deactivated all my plugins and am running just this and buddypress. Any help would be appreciated!
oh god. maybe I’ll try to watch it out at holidays. my plugin is for wp and bb, not wpmu & buddypress, so there’s may be problem
what site are you running? is it commercial?
Hey Bobrik,
I just changed my BBPress directory and that went smoothly, but now I’m having problems with your plugin…
I had bbPress synchronization set up, but it’s not quite working anymore. It creates the new topic whenever I make a new post, but when I click on it in the forum, I get redirected to a “Nothing found…” page.
Other than uninstalling and reinstalling everything, is there anything I can do to fix this?
Thanks, Adam
sorry, folks. can’t support that plugin for free now. i really have no time for that. pay something and ask or find solution by yourself.
Just a few notes, as a first time user who managed to get this working…
a) Amazing work. This is a great solution that WP & BB should have natively. Suggest you contact the BB team and offer your solution! They may even pay you for it!
b) Initially could not get the “Category-Forum accordance” functionality to work. Have entered both valid Category name and correct forum ID, yet plugin always says that the forum id is invalid. Had to first choose a single forum with the drop down, even though wanted more than 1 category. This is a usability issue; as a solution, in psuedo-code, would prefer something like “if Category-Forum accordance != null then single category dropdown id must be valid, else ignore single category dropdown id”
c) Naming the download & plugin directories with the same name is confusing; you can technically install either into either bb or wp and this creates needless confusion. Why not just name them different, then just have each look for the appropriate names? Wp plugin looks for Bb plugin name, and vice-versa?
d) Would be nice to have an edit field to manually change the forum link description. Have edited the php no problem, just as a usability feature / improvement.
e) Thank you for releasing this; you’ve done a tremendous job towards better wp / bb integration!
Darn, even my pseudo code has bugs!
Mean to say something along these lines:
if (Category-Forum accordance == null) then requireValid(single category dropdown) else validIdCheck(Category-Forum accordance)
Is it possible to indicate a child forum for the category-forum accordance?
Would like to see this plugin support mirrored sites. Currently have to reassign the URL’s everytime I mirror the site to the development server, for example.
Your plugin is the only one I have to do this for, and I use several, so clearly there exists a better way than hard-saving urls in the plugin config.
Otherwise, the plugin does exactly what it says on the tin!
I am using wordpress + bbpress in an .htpasswd protected directory. I can enable bbpress synchronization only if I remove the authentication requirement from the directory. However, once I add the requirement back into my .htaccess file it stops working. This is so even though bbpress is installed within my wp directory.
Hey Fred:
That’s because the plugin contacts it’s other half over http. It can’t do that if it’s behind a .htaccess protected directory.
Rohan,
Many thanks. If it had worked – it would have been brilliant.
Fred:
I’m not Bobrik so I have no idea what his plans are with this plugin but currently it doesn’t work over .htaccess. To make it work, you would need to hardcode in the .htaccess login urls through the plugin file itself. I think it would be possible to do relatively easily if you know php.
If you don’t and you want my help with it, you can contact me directly by going to my website’s contact form at http://rohankapoor.com/contact/
Hope this helps you a little bit!

Works great, but still leaves me hungry
In my eyes, I want to (in some ways) remove the Wordpress Blogging Inferstructure altogethor. THough not in reality, just in function.
By Wordpress importanting all of the BBpress forums including catagories,
Likewise, Setting a Default catagory for wordpress docs without catagories or with catagories that aren’t in the BBpress forums
Wordpress only imports BBpress posts that have a “Wordpress” Tag or something
Then in BBpress, adding a “Blog it” for admins/mods to add to the Wordpress blog
I’m still thinking it all through, But I plan to work on this after I’m done with a few other projects
@Sam Tobla: Are you suggesting creating a forum with a blog instead of a forum with a blog?
@Rohan Kapoor
“Are you suggesting creating a forum with a blog instead of a blog with a forum?”
Fixed :P
But, Yes… Yes I am!
In my eyes, The Blog isn’t NEARLY as important as a Forum for a few reasons
1) Bloggers sometimes get tired of their job, while people on a forum are there because they want to be there. As a result, Bloggers may come up with poor subjects due. While Forum people are always thinking up interesting things (even if they only come up with one they’re entire time there).
2) You only have so many people blogging, you have a LOT of people on a forum who may come up with something interesting (including the bloggers)
-if there was also a ranking system for the number of important threads they posted, it would also show the difference between someone that is technically a blogger
3) Conversation is more freindly in a forum since you don’t have big brother looking over your shoulder. I find I talk alot more on forums than on blogs, and I think that is very important in terms of traffic and getting more interesting topics that will get traffic.
4) Blogs may bring people in, but forums get people to stay. Theres only a few blogs that I look at, and rarely. But Many Forums I go to regularly
In my eyes, A blog is just about publicity
-What do we want the people who come to our website to see?
Now, if your plugin allowed us to just make interesting forum topics into blog posts. Not only do we not have to hire bloggers other than ourselves, but so long as we have people talking on forums, we have bloggers.
And if someone in the Forum decides to post something Awesome in an appropiate catagory
-I don’t want to move it to featured then move it back, I want it Right where it belongs
-That way if someone comes from our blog to our forum, they don’t just go to featured and see all the other blog posts, they go to the appropiate section and see many other topics relating to the catagory
@Sam Tabla: I’m not the creator of the plugin, nor am I the maintainer. I’m simply someone who is having a “conversation” on a blog, :P
While I understand completely what you are getting at and do agree with many parts of it, I would still feel that the blog comes first and the forum becomes a section of the blog not the other way around.
I do appreciate you sharing your viewpoints though!
Thanks!
No problem, I like discussion also :D
A blog is cute but is not a main focus in a community setting
-A great point is to check the number of comments on a blog and the number of posts on a topic in a forum
Elecbyte
In this example, the group actually made the forum post the blog post
Hive Workshop
A blog is essentially Putting a topic someone thought about that has significance for public display. Now, In single person situations, A forum is an addon because no one is expected to even use it. However, in large community type settings, Forums are where your bloggers are. Not individual people blogging for the community, but A person with a new discovery here, a new creation there. A person with an interesting new concept.
Now, for some websites, they can get away with having Blogging Seperated from the community. However, When you have a large community, the blog isn’t just a persons thoughts, its publicity, its announcements, it’s many things. And To restrict posts to one folder seems like a bad idea, they should be where they belong.
@Sam Tobia:
Once again I do see and agree with your points. In a project where you expect the community to have an active role it makes much more sense to start with a forum and then build the blog on top of that.
However on a site like this one… or even one of my own, http://rohankapoor.com I’m hoping that you agree that the blog comes first and the forum (if any) would not really be an integral part of it.
It really depends on the purpose of the site itself. If it’s an individuals thoughts then a forum isn’t needed. For a community site, a forum is a must.
I have the sama problem Adam had:
everytime i click on a forum post it redirects with the design/template of the blog on a 404 page or on the original post on the blog instead of the forum.. look:
http://leganerd.com/forum
try to click on an article.. it redirects you to the relative blog post.. I don’t want it, I want it to remain on the forum as used to be… :( someone can help?
thanks!
Looks like the plugin 0.8 is imcompatible with WP 2.9.2. If I have the gallery in post, it messes up on the forum’s side. Also, the link on the bottom messes up too if I edit the forum posts.
Nevermind. Looks like this plugin doesn’t support gallery code. Is there way to disable the gallery on forum’s side?
I dont know if i did anything wrong… sync seems to work but i have empty comments in wordpress!
I mean… only the username from the bb side appears, but the comment has no words!
Any advice, please? *most humbly*
The Process
… and… in case i upgrade to the last version of the plugin, would i lose the previous integrations?
Thanks
